News - 100,000 Solana smartphones already ordered
One year and only 20,000 pre-orders: The first Solana smartphone did pretty poorly. Saga 2, on the other hand, is a best seller - The reason? Lots of speculation about airdrops.
According to Solana co-founder Anatoly Yakovenko, there are already 100,000 pre-orders for the second Web3 cell phone, called the Saga 2. Solana now has US$45 million available for development. After all, buyers have already paid US$450 per smartphone. Like Solana's first cell phone, the Saga 2 will have crypto functions, a blockchain connection and an integrated hardware wallet.
It is hard to beat Apple and Google when it comes to the camera and other technical specifications of their leading smartphones, explained Yakovenko out to CoinDesk.
"That's why we put a lot of emphasis on crypto-specific features. We're trying to develop something that you can't get on any other device," continued Yakovenko.
Whether buyers are actually interested in these developments remains to be seen. The first Saga included additional airdrops and tokens worth more than US$1,000. The Saga 2 would contain even more airdrops.
