They had to wait a decade for it, but it's finally here: This year, Mt.Gox's victims will be paid out.

Mt Gox victims will be compensated starting this year. This is according to an email from the former crypto exchange.

The payout should be completed by 2023, but could extend into next year. About $23 billion in debt open.

The payout had previously been delayed several times.

Mt Gox was founded in 2010 and grew to become the leading Bitcoin exchange, accounting for 60 percent of trading.

Several scandals led to the bankruptcy, for example, hacks, but also embezzlement by insiders.
