News - $3 Billion in Cryptocurrencies Stolen

Hacker attacks are a constant factor in the cryptomarket. 2024 was another profitable year for criminals. According to security company Peckshield, which shared data on Platform X, losses from stolen crypto-assets totaled more than US$3 billion last year. This is a 15 percent increase from the previous year, in which US$2.6 billion worth of cryptocurrencies were stolen.

The greatest damage in 2024 was caused by hacker attacks, with about $2.1 billion lost, according to Peckshield. In addition, about $800 million was stolen through fraud.
On a positive note, about $488.5 million in stolen cryptocurrencies could be recovered, according to Peckshield. Moreover, scams and hacks declined toward the end of the year. May was the high point with losses of $660 million, while in December the damage was limited to $46 million.
