Binance executive in court: concern over health status

Binance executive Tigran Gambaryan has been indicted in Nigeria for laundering $35 million. A video now raises doubts about his physical condition.

On social media, a video in which the obviously weakened Binance-manager Tigran Gambaryan can be seen on his way to the courtroom.

The video shows Gambaryan apparently struggling to walk with a crutch. His request for a wheelchair is denied. Frustrated, he shouts, "This is fucked up."

Gambaryan was arrested in Nigeria in late February. He is accused of involvement in the laundering of US$35 million. At Binance, the 39-year-old was head of Crime Compliance.

Binance CEO Richard Teng reacted to the video concerned about his employee's health condition: "This inhumane treatment of Tigran must stop. He should be able to return home to get medical treatment and be with his family."

According to family members, Tigran Gambaryan's health has deteriorated in recent months. In prison, he allegedly did not receive adequate medical care.

Gambaryan himself stated that he is suffering from a hernia and is also showing symptoms of malaria and pneumonia.

A request for bail was denied in May. Today, the court will make another decision.
