News - Crypto lawyer John Deaton challenges Elizabeth Warren
Crypto proponent John Deaton will debate Elizabeth Warren, who is known as a fierce opponent of Bitcoin, Ethereum and other cryptocurrencies, in the battle for a seat as Massachusetts senator.
With a victory in the primaries on Sept. 3, well-known crypto advocate John Deaton defeated his Republican competitors. As a result, he is now taking on current senator and outspoken crypto-critic Elizabeth Warren in the race for a seat in the U.S. Senate from Massachusetts. Warren has already agreed to two debates, but Deaton is demanding five rounds of debate.
John Deaton has previously performed legal work for Ripple and other companies in the industry. He has often sharply criticized the U.S. stock market watchdog SEC and its chairman Gary Gensler. Because of his support for Bitcoin and other cryptocurrencies, he also enjoys the backing of prominent figures in the industry, such as Gemini co-founders Cameron and Tyler Winklevoss.
The battle for the Senate seat will include issues such as immigration, the economy, income inequality, abortion rights and war. U.S. Navy veteran and cancer survivor announced in a statement after his victory that he wants to hold Warren "accountable for her failures at the border, the unaffordable cost of family maintenance, a broken healthcare system and the removal of our ally Israel."
It is possible that crypto topics will also be discussed during the debates, given the wide differences in views. This may make for heated discussions.
At least the favorite of the crypto community is clear: "John Deaton v. Elizabeth Warren is official. Maybe we can retire the leader of the anti-crypto army early," said crypto investor and entrepreneur Ryan Adams of Bankless.
Also in the battle for the White House between Kamala Harris and Donald Trump, the attitude versus Bitcoin, Ethereum and other cryptocurrencies to play an increasingly important role.
