News - Federal Reserve raises key interest rate again by 0.25 percent
The US Federal Reserve Bank (Fed) is raising interest rates again by 0.25 percent to a total of 5.25 percent. This is the third interest rate decision this year.
The Fed is keeping its tight monetary policy unchanged and once again tightening the interest rate screw: The U.S. central bank is raising interest rates by another 25 basis points to 5.25 percent. Something the vast majority of market analysts expected in advance. The U.S. monetary watchdogs just announced this in a press release disclosed.
The US central bank thus consistently continues its policy of tightening in its third major interest rate decision this year. Despite falling inflation of 5.0 percent in the month of March and another U.S. bank failure the week before, U.S. Federal Reserve head Jerome Powell is sticking to the tight monetary policy of the past 16 months.
"It's possible we'll have what I hope will be a mild recession," U.S. @FederalReserve Chair Jerome Powell says at today's #FOMC meeting.
