News - FIFA releases new NFT collection
The international soccer federation FIFA is releasing an NFT collection on the occasion of the FIFA Club World Cup. Here's what buyers can expect from the NFTs.
FIFA announced yesterday that it is releasing an NFT collection today to mark the start of the FIFA Club World Cup in Saudi Arabia. Seven teams that have qualified as the world's best soccer clubs, according to FIFA, will meet in Jeddah.
FIFA is receiving support from blockchain company Modex. In the first tranche, 100 NFTs will be issued on Dec. 15. Buyers will have a chance to win a ticket to the 2026 FIFA World Cup. The 100 NFTs will be issued on the proprietary NFT platform FIFA+ Collect. This was launched in September 2022 on the Algorand blockchain infrastructure. In addition, 900 NFTs will be mined on the Polygon blockchain in a second tranche at a later date and listed on the OpenSea marketplace. According to FIFA, the NFT collection will capture the unforgettable moments of the current FIFA Club World Cup.
On its own NFT platform FIFA+ Collect, 11 NFT drops have been completed so far, with 909,255 NFTs being mined. However, at US$2.4 million, the trading volume so far is quite modest.
