News - HBO goes in search of Satoshi's identity
In a new documentary, HBO explores the true identity of Bitcoin's founder. Who is Satoshi Nakamoto?
The new HBO documentary, *Money Electric: The Bitcoin Mystery*, attempts to reveal the identity of the mysterious Bitcoin founder, Satoshi Nakamoto. According to Alex Thorn, head of research at Galaxy Digital, the documentary focuses on Len Sassaman, a Cypherpunk who died in 2011.
hearing that the forthcoming HBO (wed oct 9) documentary identifies len sassaman as satoshi -- there was a good write-up of this theory by @evan_worlds in 2021

if that's who the doc identifies, should be neutral to positive for BTCUSD given that len died in 2013 (RIP)…
The Bitcoin blockchain contains a tribute hidden to Sassaman, who committed suicide in July 2011. His death coincides with the moment Satoshi Nakamoto disappeared. Just two months before Sassaman's death, Satoshi posted his last message on the Bitcointalk forum. Whether HBO will actually provide hard evidence of a connection between Satoshi and Sassaman remains to be seen. The documentary will be released on Oct. 9.
Many rumors have circulated for years about the identity of the Bitcoin founder. Within the crypto community, however, the statement, "We are all Satoshi" remains standing. This emphasizes that Satoshi's identity does not matter, as the essence of Bitcoin and its decentralized nature are more important. Everyone who uses, supports or promotes Bitcoin is part of this idea and "so we are all Satoshi." Except Craig Wright. A court ruled in March that he is not Satoshi.
Satoshi's wealth is estimated at about 1.1 million BTC, which currently amounts to about US$67 billion.
