News - Market update: Bitcoin and Ethereum rule the market
By
It was finally here: Bitcoin broke through the $100,000 mark last night, while Ethereum is on its way to the $4,000 mark.
In the early morning hours, Bitcoin reached a new all-time high of $103,679. With a six percent increase on a daily basis, the largest cryptocurrency currently quotes $102,508. Bitcoin's market capitalization now exceeds the two trillion dollar mark.
Ethereum also had a strong start to the day. The second-largest cryptocurrency rose five and a half percent from the previous day and now stands at $3,941, close to the important $4,000 mark. Both Bitcoin and Ethereum posted gains of five percent on a weekly basis. The total market capitalization of the crypto market rose one percent to $3.89 trillion in the past 24 hours.
While some coins continue to win, there are losers, too. XRP, which made huge gains in recent days, fell 11 percent today to $2.31. Despite this, XRP is still up 65 percent on a weekly basis and remains the fourth largest crypto-currency.
Tether's stablecoin USDT has once again overtaken XRP and is now the third largest crypto-currency with a market capitalization of $136 billion.
Solana (SOL) lost 1.6 percent today and now stands at $239. On a weekly basis, SOL is up 1.7 percent. Cardano (ADA) is holding firmly above the dollar mark, despite a small decline today.
The crypto market remains full of movement, with big gains for some coins and slight losses for others, while Bitcoin and Ethereum continue to lead the way.
