News - 99 blocks to go until Bitcoin halving
In a few hours, the fourth Bitcoin halving will take effect and the new supply of BTC will be halved again - with potentially positive effects on the price.
The fourth Bitcoin Halving is coming. There are now just under 91 blocks to go.
According to this calculation, the halving will take place on the night of April 19-20 at 00:45 a.m. However, these are only preliminary estimates.
Market observers expect positive effects on the Bitcoin price in the long run. The reduction in supply will lead to a shortage of supply, which could boost the price if demand is high.
Bitcoin halving halves the so-called block subsidy, not the entire block reward. It ultimately consists of the block subsidy and the transaction fees added to the block.
In the first halving, the block subsidy halved from 50 to 25 BTC per mined block. In the current, fourth halving, the block subsidy is halved from 6.25 to 3.125 BTC. The next halving takes place in 2028: Then the subsidy halves again - to just 1.5625 BTC.
The halving occurs every 210,000 blocks, which means about every four years.
