News - Old Bitcoin wallet awakens after 12 years of deep sleep
Once again, after more than a decade of radio silence, millions of Bitcoin that were thought lost have awakened and started to move.
The recent transfers of dead Bitcoin continue. For now, another Hodler has awakened from his deep sleep and is beginning to move his BTC. In this case, the owner sent 139 BTC to a new Segwit address, as evidenced by on-chain data.
He had bought the coins in June 2011 for about US$2,250. Today, the value of his investment is about US$3.5 million. Already 1,100 pre-2013 BTC have been moving again since this year.
Despite recent activity, however, most of these old coins are still in a presumably perpetual deep sleep. After all, of the 4.25 million Bitcoin older than seven years, only 356,000 BTC have ever been issued.
Last week ~3.2k BTC of Ancient Supply (7+ years) were revived, with 1.1k dating back to pre-2013.
