Optimism Airdrop: That's how many OP tokens have been handed out

Optimism conducted another Airdrop, with the following users qualifying.

The Layer-2 blockchain Optimism has launched its fifth Airdrop, handing out 10.3 million OP tokens, worth about $16 million. A total of 54,700 user addresses were rewarded. The focus was mainly on users who interacted with the so-called Superchain.

Users who worked with the OP Mainnet, Base, Zora, Mode, Metal, Fraxtal, Cyber, Mint, Swan, Redstone, Lisk, Derive, BOB, Xterio, Polynomial, Race or Orderly between March 15 and September 15 this year were eligible for the Airdrop.

After this Airdrop, Optimism reserved another 550 million OP tokens for future distributions. The first Airdrop took place on May 31, 2022, followed by the second on Feb. 8, 2023, and the third on Sept. 13, 2023.

With a market capitalization of $1.9 billion, Optimism currently ranks 48th among the world's largest cryptocurrencies. The recent Airdrop could bring Optimism back to the attention of the DeFi world. However, with a Total Value Locked (TVL) of $630 million, the Web3 project is currently well behind the competition. By comparison, AAVE has a TVL of $12 billion.

The Optimism Collective's goal is to create a kind of decentralized Internet that "belongs to everyone."
