News - Phishing attacks on Phantom-Wallet
A series of phishing attacks are currently taking place at the Phantom Wallet, intercepting users' Seed Phrases. According to Scam Sniffer on Platform X, scammers connect to the wallets and then trick users with a fake request for a signature for a so-called "update extension." They then ask for the Seed Phrase.
When entered, the scammers gain access to the wallet. Scam Sniffer strongly warns never to enter the Seed Phrase on "any website."
There is a simple trick to spot fake pop-ups: a simple right-click on the link. "Phishing sites block right-clicking. Real Phantom windows do not restrict this," says Scam Sniffer.
The platform also advises checking the URL. Genuine Phantom pop-ups show "chrome extension" in the link, fraudulent websites do not.
In addition, Phantom's pop-ups behave like system windows and thus can be resized. Fake pop-ups are "locked within the browser tab."
Phantom was founded in 2021. The wallet supports a variety of blockchains and is primarily used within the Solana ecosystem.
