News - Ripple CEO predicts soon end of SEC case
Is the end of the Ripple case near? According to CEO Brad Garlinghouse, a decision could come as early as the next few weeks.
Ripple CEO Brad Garlinghouse recently said in a interview on May 25 that he expects the legal dispute with the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) to end within weeks.
Following the recent news surrounding the Hinman documents, Garlinghouse predicted a decision within "weeks, not months."
US District Judge Analisa Torres ruled on May 16 that Hinman's documents were not allowed to be sealed by the US Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC).
The documents include internal SEC communications related to a 2018 speech by former division director William Hinman in which he said Ether, the Ethereum blockchain's native token, was not a "security.
De lawsuit between Ripple and the SEC is seen as a landmark case for the crypto sector. The court must decide whether XRP should be considered a security. It is assumed that the legal dispute will be used as a precedent for future crypto regulations. Hinman's documents will be made public on June 13.
