News - Tether discontinues USDT support on Bitcoin, Kusama and Bitcoin Cash
By
Tether has announced changes to its USDT issuance policy, with support for Bitcoin, Kusama and Bitcoin Cash is discontinued, while indicating possible future collaborations.
The company decided to end support for USDT on the Bitcoin (BTC), Kusama (KSM) and Bitcoin Cash (BCH) platforms after a thorough review in areas such as security, customer service, regulation and overall oversight.
Tether indicated that insufficient growth is a major reason for this move, stating, "When a blockchain does not show significant growth for a significant period of time, it becomes increasingly difficult to justify the necessary resources and oversight. This can even pose potential security risks."
Recently, Tether announced it will stop issuing USDT on the Polkadot blockchain Kusama, Bitcoin Omni and BCH. Users have the option to convert USDT-Omni, USDT-Kusama and USDT-BCH-SLP to other chains on platforms that support these assets, such as Bitfinex.
The immediate consequences of this change are the cessation of minting USDT-Omni, USDT-Kusama and USDT-BCHSLP as of today, Aug. 17. Nevertheless, Tether has assured that USDT redemptions on these platforms will continue according to standard procedures for the next 12 months.
