News - Trump's chances rise after attack
US presidential candidate Donald Trump narrowly escaped an assassination attempt. On Saturday night, the Republican was giving a speech in the small town of Butler in the US state of Pennsylvania when suddenly four shots were fired.
Trump survived with minor injuries; the bullet grazed his ear. Security personnel moved the former president to safety. Two people were killed: a 50-year-old man and the attacker himself.
After Donald Trump's failed attack, the Republican's chances of winning the presidency are higher than ever, at least according to crypto betting platform Polymarket. With a 71 percent probability, the former president is far ahead of his Democratic opposing candidate Joe Biden (18 percent). Biden wished Trump a speedy recovery just yesterday.
The Republican wants to get involved in the crypto world in the US, accepting campaign contributions in Bitcoin and opposing alleged plans for a US CBDC. However, some also suspect political motives behind his crypto-friendly stance.
Late next week, Trump was actually supposed to speak at the Bitcoin Conference in Nashville. According to organizers, the meeting is going ahead despite the attack. For Trump, however, the Republicans' party conference in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, is first on the agenda. There, he will be officially declared the presidential candidate.
