News - Ubisoft experiments again with Web3 games - this time for real?
By
Ubisoft is partnering with Immutable X, one of the most successful blockchains for video games. Together, they want to create "a Web3 experience," according to a joint statement. Further details are not known.
"We look forward to working with and bringing this level of smoothness to a full-fledged game so that players only have to focus on enjoying the experience," Nicolas Pouard said.
Ubisoft's mysterious project, however, is far from the publisher's first foray into the world of NFTs and NFT games.
Ubisoft has released NFTs inspired by the quirky game Rabbids in The Sandbox and on Reddit.
In 2021, free Tezos NFTs were introduced for Tom Clancy's Ghost Recon Breakpoint.
In April 2022, Ubisoft ended support for Ghost Recon NFTs and announced plans to use the technology in other games in the future.
In July of this year, Ubisoft announced that it was developing a tactical RPG on the blockchain Oasys, Champions Tactics. The company also became a validator for the Cronos blockchain.
Cryptocurrencies and NFTs still have a bad reputation in the video game industry. They are hated by many developers and fans. The trend is also summarized under the keyword Play-To-Earn.
