News - Ubisoft launches NFT collection via the Arbitrum blockchain
By
Listed company Ubisoft has announced the launch of an NFT collection for an upcoming shooter. To do so, the gaming company is using the Arbitrum blockchain.
Ubisoft will make the collection available through the NFT marketplace Magic Eden. The NFTs give owners the ability to use the shooter "Captain Laserhawk: The G.A.M.E." early play. In addition, the tokens offer participation in the game's governance model, where players can influence development. As players earn more tokens, new skills and content are unlocked, and they gain more control. Feedback from gamers so far has not been positive.
The collection, called Niji Warrior ID NFTs, comprises 10,000 pieces and will soon be launched on the Ethereum Layer-2 solution Arbitrum. The game is set in a fascist, dystopian world, inspired by the Netflix series "Captain Laserhawk: A Blood Dragon Remix." The multiplayer game features iconic characters from well-known games such as "Assassin's Creed," "Rayman" and "Beyond Good & Evil."
According to Didier Genevois, Web3 Executive Producer at Ubisoft, this Web3 integration not only gives the community a chance to play, but also to shape the future of the game. "It's about creating a collaborative ecosystem in which players' decisions and creations directly influence game development," Genevois said.
Ubisoft has seen potential in crypto for years. In late 2021, the company launched In-Game NFTs on the Tezos blockchain for the game Ghost Recon: Breakpoint. Other game developers are also experimenting with blockchain integrations. CCP Games, for example, is working on "EVE Frontier," a Blockchain MMO (Massively Multiplayer Online Game). Yet the game developer has been receiving a lot of criticism in recent years. The copy-paste formula doesn't seem to work anymore and the integration of blockchain and NFTs are also not appreciated by fans. It is therefore questionable whether "Captain Laserhawk: The G.A.M.E." will be a success.
