News - Will Donald Trump fight for the future of cryptocurrency?
By
"I am not a big fan of Bitcoin," Trump declared during his term, and according to Mike Brock, he even wanted to ban digital gold entirely.
At the same time, we see a very different version of Donald Trump during his current rallies. Here he promises to stand up for the cryptocurrency market. In his own words: "I will keep Elizabeth Warren and her goons away from your Bitcoin."
During his presidency, Donald Trump nearly banned Bitcoin. At least, that's what Mike Brock, a member of the central management team at the financial technology company Block, claims.
"Trump tried to ban Bitcoin in 2020 until Steve Mnuchin and a group of people in the administration curbed his desire to maintain American competitiveness and innovation," Brock writes in a post on X.
Furthermore: "I know this. I was invited to the meeting. And yes, I am breaching the trust in those conversations."
"Are you implying that people can't change their minds?" asked a user on X.
In recent weeks, Donald Trump has made significant promises to the crypto scene. The Republican wants to stand up for the industry in the U.S., accepts campaign donations in Bitcoin, and protests against alleged plans for a CBDC in the U.S.
Brock wants nothing to do with this and insists that Trump has merely "identified a few people he sees as easy fundraising and voter gains."
He is not alone in this opinion. Many suspect a political calculation behind Trump's promise. Read more here: How crypto-friendly is Donald Trump really?
