Worldcoin will place a so-called Orb at each location for this purpose, according to the blog. These will be placed at universities and supermarkets and verify that a person is real and unique. Investors include Khosla Ventures and Andreessen Horowitz's crypto venture.
ChatGPT creator Sam Altman founded the crypto project with Alex Blania in 2019. Worldcoin aims to better distinguish between humans and machines in the age of artificial intelligence (AI). Critics criticize the impact on user privacy, among other things. However, the company assures that the iris scanners do not store private data.
