Base network briefly down

Base network, briefly down

Block production on Base came to a brief halt; this was the first outage since launch. Meanwhile, the Coinbase network is running again.

Last night there was an incident on Base. The blockchain did not generate new blocks for about 45 minutes. It was the first major outage since its launch a month ago. The developers managed to fix the error. Meanwhile, block production has resumed.

Dropping out serves as a reminder

The outage was "Another reminder that using Ethereum L2s is not the same as using the Ethereum mainnet, which is more tested and requires less trust", said Matt Willemsen, head of research at Collective Shift.

"Of course, I'm not saying you shouldn't use L2s, but you have to know what you're dealing with." The Layer 2 network Base linked to Ethereum is intended to support the massive crypto breakthrough, but is still proving to be quite bumpy in practice.
