Blockchain gaming: Google Cloud and Solana work together

Google Cloud and Solana Labs are collaborating on a tool that will make it easier for developers to integrate blockchain functionality into games.

Google Cloud has a partnership with Solana Labs announced, which aims to make blockchain gaming mainstream using its new toolset GameShift. The service, now available on the Google Cloud Marketplace, offers wallets, tokenized assets and on-chain marketplaces, among other things.

The toolset makes it easier for game developers to integrate Web3 features such as Non-Fungible Tokens (NFTs) into their existing cloud-based games by taking much of the technical complexity out of their hands. Smaller and traditional development studios in particular can benefit due to limited resources.

As a reason for choosing Solana, the Web2 giant cites the blockchain's high number of transactions, high availability and significant transaction volume. Solana is also consistently one of the top three players in terms of NFTs, defi crypto trading and stablecoin volumes.

Google Cloud emphasizes that it has long recognized the potential of Web3. Their support for blockchain technology is evident in such areas as their Blockchain Node Engine and the Web3 for Startups program.

During the Token2049 conference, Solana Labs presented also their new smartphone, Solana Seeker, presented, which is the successor to the Saga device. In addition, Coinbase's Wrapped-Bitcoin derivative cbBTC could soon be launched on Solana.

EVE Frontier is another promising blockchain gaming project currently in development.
