News - Vodafone partners with Cardano - for an NFT collection
By
German network operator Vodafone GmbH is going Web3 - choosing Cardano Blockchain to launch its NFT collection on.
Non-fungible tokens (NFTs) are not new territory for Vodafone: two years ago, the mobile operator already auctioned off the first SMS ever sent using blockchain technology for charity. Now Europe’s largest network operator wants to launch its first NFT collection of its own - and is relying on the Cardano Blockchain to do so. The German arm of the British company confirmed this on the company’s own Discord channel. There, Vodafone also announced that the NFT collection will be released this year, even though it is still in the planning stage.
The Cardano (ADA) blockchain was chosen because of its "community, sustainability, [and] cross-chain opportunities", the company continued. However, the characteristics of the unique tokens are not yet known. However, the first 1,000 members of the Vodafone Discord community will receive rewards.
The official confirmation was preceded by a tweet that already hinted at some things:

The so-called mintage, i.e. the creation of the NFTs, will be done by NMKR. CEO Patrick Tobler confirmed via Twitter that his company is responsible for the creation of the NFT collection. And wrote underneath: "Entrepreneurial adoption in the real world - or not Charles Hoskinson?"
The inventor of Cardano himself has not yet commented on the planned NFT collection. This could be partly because his company recently released a new Cardano update to make the blockchain more user-friendly. For a short time, this seemed to fuel the ADA share price. On a weekly basis, the share price has calmed down, but at the time of writing it stands at US$0.29 - 7 percent higher than a day ago.
